Police reported they were contacted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Officers then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they stated.

City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A senior official commented the incident left him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
