Jon Ruben confessed to 17 charges at Leicester Crown Court on recently

An individual who laced sweets with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a summer program in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person became sick at the facility in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a young boy.

The defendant was held in detention before a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.

The defendant played a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She explained the man had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.

The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about the situation, justifiably.

"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor stated materials including lubricant, ointment and syringes were discovered, and his family member contacted the authorities about his worries.

She explained the defendant proceeded to play the "candy game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.

The legal representative stated the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member contacted the police once more.

She stated Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
